The mARTinez GALLERY
In May 2007 several local artists from the Martinez Arts Association formed a cooperative to open an art gallery in the heart of downtown Martinez. Housed in the historic Sharkey Building adjacent to the County Courthouse. Anyone visiting the gallery will see a variety of artworks -- from painting, photography and ceramics to woodworking, jewelry and fabric art -- and will have the opportunity to meet and chat with one of the artists, as the gallery is staffed by those who exhibit their work.

Art in the Park
The Martinez Art Association was conceived in late 1967 by a small group of local artists. The 1st MAA show was a fondly remembered lawn party in the garden of one of the founding members. The next event was on Main Street in downtown Martinez, but the wind was horrific! 1969 came and the Association put on the first Art in the Park event.
Once a summer, MAA's roots still show themselves on the third Sunday in August in Susana Street Park to host the annual Art in the Park with Music.
For 40 years, this event continues to be enthusiastically attended by returning artists and vendor alike. They come to enjoy a tree-lined venue of art, food, and drink to the background of live music provided by local singers.

Scholarships
The Martinez Arts Association (MAA) promotes arts in the community not only by supporting established artists through the Martinez Art Gallery and a number of annual events, but also by supporting young, up-and-coming artists with scholarships and donations. Proceeds earned from various venues where association members show and sell their work then go toward scholarships for local youth interested in pursuing their arts education beyond high school. The benefits are for artists of all ages.
